Days 4 - 7: Baton Rouge and Our Anniversary

So this was my first week "working from the road". We spent most of the week with my family -- a couple of nights with my mom and dad (Allen and Donna), then a night with my sister (Lindsy) and her husband and 3 boys, and then a night with my other sister (Leigh) and her husband and baby boy.

We hit our first speed bump of our trip... We rushed Kim to the ER on Tuesday night with severe abdominal and chest pain. Big thanks to my baby sister Leigh -- she was a champ, and she diagnosed the "problem" hours before anyone else :-) After a long night in the hospital, and seeing a specialist a day later, it appears that poor Kimmie has gallstones :-(

What causes gallstones, you ask? I refer you to my previous post. Fatty foods, typically. But postpartum women in their 30s are highly predisposed to gallstones anyway. Bummer. We were all set for two nights in New Orleans to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. Oh well...

So we spent a few more days with my family, and seeing some personally recommend doctors here in Baton Rouge.

We did have a marvelous anniversary though! We ate at Tsunami Sushi, which is on the top floor of an office building in downtown Baton Rouge, overlooking the Mississippi River (see the panorama above!). Fusion Cajun sushi is a lot of fun, mixing the best of Louisiana and Japanese cuisine. We had maki rolls of alligator, crawfish, and oysters, among other delicacies. Yum :-)

The view of Louisiana's old state capitol building is nice from here. You can see LSU Tiger Stadium on the horizon, too.

I was somewhat surprised to see Tobasco-brand spicy soy sauce! The Tobasco website says this is probably the best thing to happen to soy sauce in about a thousand years. My buddy, Josh McJilton, upon hearing this, remarked that it's probably the only thing that's happened to soy sauce in a thousand years!

Kim spent today by the pool with my sister and our friend and their kids. And tonight, we're heading to Kim's parent's house in Kiln, Mississippi (yes, where Brett Favre is from).

As for the next parts of our trip, we're still in a bit of a wait-and-see mode. We have another appointment on Monday with a doctor who will recommend a treatment for Kim. Worst case, removal of the gall bladder, best case he tells us to hit the road again!
