The approach toward Yosemite Valley from the south provide some of the most incredible views of the park. This is one of the most famous views, with El Capitan on the left, Half Dome in the distance at center, and Bridal Veil Falls on the right.
Half Dome, even at a high zoom, is just a gorgeously sculpted, majestic piece of granite.
It's October, late fall, so all of Yosemite's falls are dwindling by this point. Bridal Veil was flowing, but nothing like what I've seen in April and July.
We got another up close view of a coyote, once we got to the valley itself. Beautiful creature. Surprisingly, its figure is not too dissimilar from our boys, Tiger or Aggie.
We tried to get a walk-up campsite at each of the campgrounds in the valley, including Camp 4 (where I usually camp). Everything was booked. Moreover, the valley was simply packed with traffic. Sadly, we crawled around the valley in the Jeep, having trouble finding parking spots anywhere.
We tried to have a nice lunch at the Awahnee Hotel (another favorite of our honey moon), but even that was packed. Quite disappointed and frustrated, we made our way out of the valley floor itself.
On an excellent tip from a park ranger, we camped at the secluded Tamarak Flats! It required a 6 mile 4x4 drive to the back side of a hill, but we were rewarded with peace and quiet and no crowds whatsover. The campsites were huge, flat, and soft.
I'm sure you're wondering what this is... This is dried broccoli for Kim's macaroni and cheese. That's all the broccoli included for 4 servings of mac-n-cheese. I had no trouble with that amount of veggies ;-)
Here I am, once again, praying to Prometheus to give me a real fire. Nope. Soaking, soggy wood. Again. I lose. Darn.
And boy did it get cold that night! The low was right around freezing and it certainly felt it ;-) All the same, we quite enjoyed the peace and quiet.
