The day began with a drive up the mountain to take a picture under the Ruby Falls sign at the entrance of the cave. Dad took my picture with Steph under the sign when I was 5 then again around 13 so I thought that returning again at 30 was necessary! Sorry Steph couldn't be there :( but maybe we can go back in another 10-15 years, what do you say?
Next I went back down the mountain only to go back up then down again...wait I'll explain. I took America's steepest railroad ride back to the top. At first I was thinking this thing is pretty hoaky and that if Dustin was with me I'm not sure I could've coerced him to come along. However that ride sure is steep, I quickly changed my perception as I found myself white knuckling the safety rail as we got to the steepest part.
I was thinking very cynical thoughts at the tour guide boasted of the cars two 100 horse powered motors. I am turning into quite a chicken in my old age! We arrived safely at the top though, and gazed upon some beautiful views of the city below.
Back down the mountain for some shopping in the Art's district where I stumbled upon a completely hand carved carousel ride, which brought back lots of memories of riding the carousel in City Park in N.O.
I walked along the little shops and really had to resist the urge to eat a cupcake at the world's cutest cupcake shop. I did inquire after any fat free options, but alas there were none, and since I'm trying to behave as to not end up in the hospital again I mustn't indulge in anything fried or covered in buttercream so cupcakes are out at the moment. Here's some words of wisdom for those of you with a sweet tooth or two...Life is uncertain...always eat dessert first! In all seriousness though, I'm feeling much better and have been able to have cheese, iced lattes, lucky charms, & chocolate. So don't worry about me I'm going to be okay :)
